Hysteroscopy | Painless Hysteroscopy
Hysteroscopy is a precise gynecologic exam that allows a direct view of the endometrium, the structure of the uterine cavity, and any lesions, including endometrial polyps, submucosal fibroids, endometrial lesions, and endometrial cancer. It helps diagnose problems such as abnormal bleeding, infertility, and endometrial disease. The exam is quick and low-risk, making it suitable for women who are worried about pain or want a precise diagnosis, helping detect problems early and understand the health of the uterus.
Medee's gynecologic checkup also includes painless hysteroscopy for a direct view of the uterine cavity. If you have symptoms such as abnormal bleeding, hysteroscopy can help find the cause, with sampling if needed; diagnosis is confirmed by the pathology report.
Indications
Unexplained abnormal bleeding (heavy periods, irregular bleeding, postmenopausal bleeding)
Suspected intrauterine lesions (such as polyps, endometrial hyperplasia, intrauterine adhesions)
Long-term infertility or recurrent miscarriage (checking for abnormalities in the uterine cavity)
Uterine malformations, adhesions, or fibroids found on imaging that need further confirmation
Displaced intrauterine device (IUD) or failed IUD removal
Common Symptoms
Abnormal bleeding (heavy periods, irregular bleeding, postmenopausal bleeding)
Menstrual cramps or lower abdominal discomfort (suspected endometrial lesions)
Infertility, or evaluating the uterine environment before IVF
Exam Process
Before the exam: scheduled as advised by your doctor, avoiding your period.
During the exam:
You lie back comfortably while the doctor passes the hysteroscope through the vagina into the uterine cavity.
A small amount of saline is introduced to expand the uterine cavity for a clear image.
Diagnosis is made in real time; the procedure takes about 3–5 minutes, and most women feel only mild pressure or fullness.
After the exam:
You can return to normal activities the same day. A few people may have mild lower abdominal cramping or light bleeding, usually lasting about 3–7 days.
If you have a fever, severe abdominal pain, or heavy bleeding, seek medical care immediately.
Benefits of Painless Hysteroscopy
Precise diagnosis: a direct view inside the uterine cavity, clearer than ultrasound
No incisions: performed through the vagina, with no anesthesia required
Low discomfort: an ultra-thin scope reduces discomfort
Fast recovery: you can return to daily activities right after the exam
