Contraceptive Implant

A Long-Acting, Convenient, Safe 3-Year Contraceptive Option

> Medee Dazhi Clinic offers Implanon NXT contraceptive implant insertion, performed by an experienced obstetrician-gynecologist, so you can feel at ease throughout the procedure

What Is a Contraceptive Implant?

The contraceptive implant (Implanon NXT) is a small rod about 4 cm long and about 2 mm in diameter, inserted under the skin of the upper arm. It contains 68 mg of etonogestrel and continuously releases a progestin that suppresses ovulation and changes cervical mucus, providing highly effective contraception. About the size of a matchstick, it provides up to 3 years of contraceptive protection, and ovulation and fertility return quickly after removal

Advantages of the Contraceptive Implant

More than 99% effective: fewer than 1 in 100 women become pregnant in a year of use
Can be used while breastfeeding: it can be inserted from 4 weeks after childbirth and does not affect breast milk composition or supply
Estrogen-free: lowers risks such as blood clots, suitable for women who cannot use estrogen-containing contraceptives
Can be removed at any time, with a quick return of fertility
One insertion lasts 3 years: no need to remember a daily pill or change anything monthly

Who It's For

Implanon NXT is suitable for women who want long-acting, convenient contraception, especially:

Office workers / shift workers / frequent travelers (flight attendants, military, police, and firefighters, healthcare workers)
College students, graduate students, and students studying abroad who want to focus on their studies or careers
Breastfeeding mothers after childbirth with no immediate plans for pregnancy
Those who have completed their family but do not want permanent sterilization

Insertion & Effectiveness

Insertion site: placed under the skin of the inner upper arm by an experienced physician; the procedure takes about 5–10 minutes
How it works:
Suppresses the release of eggs from the ovaries
Changes cervical mucus so sperm cannot easily enter the uterus
Onset of protection: protection begins immediately after insertion
Duration: up to 3 years; a new implant can be inserted immediately when it expires

Effects on Your Period

During use, your menstrual cycle may change:

About 20% of women stop having periods (amenorrhea)
About 20% have frequent or prolonged bleeding
About 60% have bleeding patterns that stay the same or become lighter

📌 For most women, the bleeding pattern in the first 3 months is a fair predictor of what follows. 📌 Menstrual cramps usually improve clinically.

Breastfeeding & Fertility

Can be used safely from 4 weeks after childbirth
Does not affect breast milk composition (protein, lactose, fat) or milk supply
Ovulation and fertility return quickly after removal
